oper etta in sar ajevo between the two wor ld wars
aimed at the formation of an operetta ensemble as a separate unit of the
National Theatre. Instead, operetta was used as a means to strengthen the
theatre’s finances, without a clear vision of its development. Nevertheless, it
is impossible to ignore the significance of the “musical” activity of the Na-
tional Theatre which, by introducing musical-theatrical forms in the regu-
lar repertoire, successfully bridged the period from the Austro-Hungarian
era, when Bosnia and Herzegovina was visited by foreign opera troupes, to
the establishment of the first permanent opera in Bosnia and Herzegovina
after the Second World War.
