Where the Alps meet the Mediterranean and the Pannonian Plain meets the Karst, there is
Slovenia. This small green country measures 20,273 km2 in area. The collision of four major
European geographical units has created a very invigorating landscape. The changing landsca-
pe is ever surprising. You can cast your eyes across the sea, then look in the other direction
and see high mountains. Heading up into the forests, you can see the green plains below you.
From upland meadows your view stretches into river gorges. This close proximity of oppo-
sites and contrasts is one of the country’s hallmarks.
