bly, these librettos will show new ways how the relationship between op-
era and national culture could develop today. Meanwhile, Wagner’s “Flying
Dutchman” is once again on the schedule of the Latvian National Opera as
the opening production of the 100th season, coming back to the “roots” or,
namely, the first opera produced by a Latvian opera troupe shortly before
the proclamation of the independent state in 1918.
