Luca Mocarelli
is professor of economic history at the University of Milan Bicocca and
president of the International Association for Alpine History. His fields of
research include urban economic history, regional economic growth, in-
dustry and labour history, food crises and famine history in the long run.

Giulio Ongaro
is assistant professor of economic history at the University of Milan Bicocca.
His researches focus on the early modern economic and social history of
the Republic of Venice and the Papal States. He is interested in the func-
tioning of the grain market in terms of market integration, state and lo-
cal legislation, relationships between merchants, producers and the market.
