Alessio Fornasin
is associate professor in demography at the Department of Economics and
Statistics of the University of Udine. He received a PhD in economic his-
tory at Bocconi University, Milan, and is currently President of S.I.De.S. -
Italian Society of Historical Demography. His researches and publications
cover the fields of historical demography, economic history and the histo-
ry of medicine.

Aleksander Panjek
holds a PhD in economic history and is professor of history at the University
of Primorska. His main fields of research are early modern economic and
social history, in particular rural history with a focus on agrarian and peas-
ant economy, rural society and the cultural landscape.

Werner Drobesch
is associate professor at the Institute for History at the Alpen-Adria
University in Klagenfurt. His researches focus on the socio-economic de-
velopment of south-eastern Austria between the 16th and the 18th century,
