Recognising a wine
Brand names
Recently in Slovenia, as elsewhere, brand names have started appearing on wine bottle
labels; these may be varietal wines, but more often blended ones. The brand name is legally
protected and thus may not be used by anyone else; winemakers also use it to describe the
wine’s quality, the method used for its production and its provenance. If buyers know what
a particular brand has to offer, they know they are making a good purchasing decision.
