Preservation of biodiversity – the overall richness of life on the Earth in the face of
increasing human activities, is of the critical importance for ensuring healthy ecosys-
tems and supporting our life and well-being. The challenge posed by global biodiversi-
ty crisis led to the emergence of new applied interdisciplinary science of conservation
biology. It is our mission to educate a new generation of conservation biologists – sci-
entists and practitioners in the theory and methods of biodiversity conservation in
