e Convent of St. Urban
active in Slovenia since 1989 and has two branches, one in Maribor and the other in
Ljubljana. The Convent’s motto is: Ad Maiorem – vini gloriam (For the greater glory
of wine). Every convent is led by a praetor. The Convent is named after Pope Urban,
whose day is on 25 May, at the time of the flowering of
grapevines. Members strive for cultured wine drinking
and the preservation of cultural heritage, particularly
culinary heritage. The Convent of St. Urban is a male-only
organisation with only 21 members. All new members
must be accepted unanimously.
There are, of course, other such clubs and brotherhoods
around the world.
