Through the article we have shown that episiotomy birth may affect wom- the quality of sexual life after experiencing the episiotomy birth 139
an’s sexual life during the first year postpartum with more frequent pain, sex-
ual dissatisfaction and decreased libido.

Perineal trauma affects women’s physical, psychological and social well-
being. This is the reason why clinicians, midwives and health care providers
need knowledge and skills of sexual postpartum counselling, perinatal clini-
cal care and treatment. They should be educated in order to counsel women re-
garding the potential postpartum sexual feelings and difficulties and to pro-
mote or improve the quality of their sexual functioning and relationship with
partner.
