ergenerational mountaineering project “Hand in hand up to fizioterapevtske in kineziološke priložnosti ... | opportunities in physiotherapy and kinesiology ...
the top” in preschool
Tanja Plevnik Peternelj
Introduction and purpose: Preschool children are often also the initiators and
motivators for the activities of the whole family. In this paper, we want to pres-
ent the design of the project titled “Hand in hand up to the top”, which we in-
tend to carry out in the coming school year with a group of 5- and 6-year-old
preschool children and their parents. We want to encourage the activities of
the whole family, expand and strengthen the social networks of families and
present the possibilities of various physical activities of children and their par-
ents in the local environment. Intergenerational activities are also intended to
encourage parents as an active working population to establish and/or main-
tain a physically active and healthy lifestyle. We notice that often the parents of
preschool children are the ones to whom the professionals in the kindergarten
need to pay special attention in order to encourage children’s activities in na-
ture also in their free time.
Content presentation: We designed an enrichment activity titled “Hand in
hand up to the top”. The purpose of the activity is to promote an active life-
style of the whole family of a preschool child. During the school year, seven ex-
cursions will be organized at the kindergarten to the nearby hiking points. Chil-
dren who take part in at least one trip together with their parents will receive
recognition for the “Step in the right direction” encouragement. Children who
take part in at least three trips together with their parents will receive the “En-
couraging towards the goal” award, and those with at least five trips together
with their parents will receive the “Active family – we have reached the top to-
gether” award.
Conclusions: By organizing enrichment activities in the kindergarten, we want
to encourage children and their parents to an active lifestyle, raising aware-
ness of parents and children about the importance and diversity of outdoor ac-
tivities, quality leisure time with play, relaxation and socializing, learning about
flora and fauna and broadening horizons and the knowledge of the local en-
vironment. Parents of preschool children, as representatives of the working
population, are faced with the challenge of daily juggling their workloads and
family obligations. Enrichment activities carried out in the organization of the
kindergarten environment often represent an opportunity for quality spend-
ing of their free time.
