than the image of the devil. This formulation drew attention from Flacius’ theo-
logical opponents and led to the Flacian Controversy, where the role and impact
of original sin on the human being stood at the center of discussion. This article
aims to present an insight into the nature of Flacius’ theology in a chronological
format through the controversies, which shaped its articulation. The author also
makes the statement that Flacius’ theology became increasingly radical with time,
which can be traced in his written works. His uncompromising stances eventu-
ally contributed to the overall process of confessionalization in Early Modern
Europe.
