Pravočasno odkrivanje bolnikov, ki so v fazi prekaheksije in kaheksije, vodi
do učinkovitejšega zdravljenja. Ob ugotovitvi podhranjenosti je treba bol-
nika takoj vključiti v prehransko svetovanje in mu nuditi prehransko podpo-
ro tudi s prehranskimi dopolnili. Raziskave na področju zdravljenja kaheksije
so usmerjene v različna področja prehranskih dopolnil, z vplivom na kahek-
sijo. Velik potencial imajo prehranska dopolnila, ki vsebujejo več različnih se
stavin, saj ima vsaka od njih posebno funkcijo. Pri imuno prehrani so to ar-
ginin, omega-3-MK in nukleotidi, v encimski formuli Ethanwell/Ethanzyme
pa glutamin, selen, koencim Q10 in encimski produkti iz probiotikov in vita-
minov. Tudi L-karnitin, glicin in BCAA lahko vplivajo na telesno maso ali zavi-
rajo vnetno citokinsko delovanje.
