position of the poet in it, as well as the processes of reception. A
contribution of Eva Müller-Zettelmann is vital to understand the
metapoetics. She points out that the list of metathemes may ex
pand randomly, but the theme must relate to a specific aspect of
fictionality of the work of art. Metapoetry has a special weight for
understanding personal poetics and the role of poetry in a social
context. As Müller-Zettelmann says, metapoetry demonstrates an
intertwinement of poetic theory and practice.
In Slovenian poetry - as Marko Juvan says - a meaningful place has
belonged to metapoems since the poetry of France Prešeren, who
raised the autonomy of poetry through them. In this article the
analysis will concentrate on metapoetry of chosen younger gener
ation poets, who debuted on the Slovenian literary scene after Slo
venia’s independence and the establishment of a democratic politi
cal system. The article will reveal mirroring of the character of the
poet, poetry, and their place in literary creations of the generation
of poets who began creating after the groundbreaking socio-polit
ical events.
Analysis of the poems will take into account the social circumstanc
es and literary-aesthetic guidelines within which the poets create
their work. It will also show what kind of metamorphosis the meta
poetic images experience in accordance to the exposed factors.
