mary and secondary roads were defined: de-
cumanus maximus 40 feet (11.4 m), cardo max-
imus 20 feet (5.92 m); secondary roads 12 feet
(3.55 m); and one lane roads 8 feet (2.37m) (Dors-
ey 1991, 18-19). The width of Dolabella’s roads in
hilly areas (around 4 m) and in flatlands (4.50 m
to 5.50 m) completely matches Augustus’ rules of
the building of secondary (decumanus and car-
do) roads in the province of Dalmatia (Bojano-
vski 1981, 164).
