pravnem sporu imenoval prav Trubarja in ali je Trubar izpolnil škofova pričakovanja.

A New Note on Primož Trubar and Bishop of Trieste Pietro Bonomo
in a Notarial Deed of Mid-June 1541
The paper focuses on the transcript of the notarial deed of June 15, 1541, which was
discovered a good five years ago in the Episcopal Archive in Trieste (Archivio storico
diocesano di Trieste). This source, which has been to date largely unknown to Slovene
general public, was found by the author of this paper in the collection “Mixed Corre-
spondence” (Carteggio Miscellaneo) while recording archival material abroad – a pro-
ject run by the Slovenian archives under the auspices of the Archives of the Republic
of Slovenia. The introduction, which underlines the fact that the oldest record about
Trubar’s presence at the court of Bishop Pietro Bonomo dates back to 1526, is followed
by a paragraph briefly outlining the sources testifying Trubar’s activity in Trieste from
April 7 to August 9, 1541. The next part summarizes the contents of the notarial deed
of mid-June 1541. According to the document, Bonomo appointed Primož Trubar, the
chaplain in the Trieste Cathedral of St. Justus, as a special representative in the dispute
with Martin Kusman (Cusman), the castellan at Socerb Castle. The reason for the dis-
pute was that Kusman had allegedly alienated incomes and rights of the bishops of Tri-
este in Socerb and particularly in nearby Kastelec. Trubar is supposed to have proven
before King Ferdinand I and the royal councils in Vienna that the incomes and rights
mentioned belonged to the bishops of Trieste, and disproven the “facts” presented by the
Kusman’s side as null and void. In the final part of the paper, the author attempts to an-
swer the following questions: firstly, why it was Trubar who was appointed by Bonomo
as representative in this legal dispute over property rights, and secondly, whether Trubar
lived up to the bishop’s expectations.
